Tanaka|The author introduces his book as the outcome of a desire to understand more deeply the spiritual tradition he is committed to (Buddhism), which is certainly a praiseworthy endeavour. But the prospective reader should be aware that this is not a devotional book, but a technical philosophical analysis.

The book explains and assesses Nagarjuna's philosophy of emptiness (Sunyata). This book argues that though Nagarjuna advocates the middle way between nibilism and eternalism, his philosophy of emptiness nevertheless entails nihilism. Burton also refutes the interpretation tht Nagarjuna is sceptic and examines Nagarjuna's notion of non-conceptual knowledge of reality. In addition, Nagarjuna's critiques of the Nyaya theory of knowledge (pramana) are critically scrutinised....
